Julie’s journey on the path of yoga began in 2001. As a single mother of a ten year old and a full-time high school teacher, she needed some ‘me’ time.
Practising yoga helped her to find a peaceful place within herself. Noticing the high stress levels and poor health of many of her teenage students, she began to share her practice with them and eventually she offered yoga classes to her colleagues as well.
In order to deepen her knowledge and her own practice, Julie traveled to Goa, India in 2011 and completed the 200-Hr Yoga Alliance teacher certification course at Ashiyana Yoga Centre under the guidance of her teachers Linda D’Antal, Yamuna Devi and Chris Nelson. Julie has also completed certification to teach Pre- & Post-natal Vinyasa Yoga with Jennifer Wolfe, Yin Yoga with Corina Benner, Yoga Therpeutics with Ashleigh Sergeant, and Swing Yoga with PeeWee Sanchez as well as Meditation Teacher Training with David Magone and Level 1 Warriors at Ease teacher training. In June 2017, she traveled to Rishikesh India where she completed the Advanced Yoga Teacher Training (300 Hr) at Shiva Yoga Peeth under the guidance of her teachers Siddarth-ji, Sushant-ji Singh, Surendra-ji Phartyal, and Sanjeev Semwal.
Julie now offers yoga/meditation/stress relief classes to the wider community and to first responders, law enforcement, military and those who are under extreme stress during their work day in order to address the high levels of divorce, suicide and stress related illnesses amongst this population.
She believes in the beneficial qualities of yoga and meditation and advocates yoga for every body. With that in mind, Julie created Yoga Plus! an asana practice for plus-sized yogis.
